History

Campbellville is named after John Campbell, who arrived in Canada in 1832. Originating from Scotland, he set up home in the former Township of Nassagaweya, later renamed Campbellville. The residents enjoyed the fact that Campbellville was very progressive for its time and boasted a sawmill, blacksmith shop, general store, and post office. In 1974, Campbellville joined to become part of the Town of Milton.
