Colourful, vibrant, and multi-cultural, Mississauga is the second-most populous city in the GTA, after Toronto, and the sixth in Canada. Located along the shoreline of Lake Ontario, Mississauga is part of the Region of Peel and is bordered by the cities of Toronto, Oakville, and Milton. This fast-paced city has a growing downtown business core and a pedestrian-friendly city center. Its sprawling treed suburbs, community centres, parks and green space trails offer homeowners a superior quality of life. Mississauga offers residents and visitors a variety of cultural festivals and sporting activities throughout the year and is considered the “Jewel of the GTA.”

Festivals

The architecture, restaurants, places of worship, sporting, cultural, music and artistic events in Mississauga, all reflect just how multicultural this city is. The ever-popular Carassauga Festival, launched in 1986, is Canada’s largest multicultural festival. Every year this city-wide, family- friendly festival showcases the food, music and culture of the different countries represented by the population of Mississauga. It is not to be missed! The neighbourhood of Port Credit is famous for its Ribfest, and Jazz and Busker festivals that draw crowds of thousands every year. The Mississauga Waterfront festival is also held in Port Credit. The City Centre is home to Canada Day Festivities and a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in December, held at Celebration Square.

Popular Neighbourhoods

Along the Lakeshore, neighbourhoods include the ever-popular Port Credit, located at the mouth of the Credit River as it empties into Lake Ontario.  The adjacent neighbourhood of Clarkson also offers residents access to well-groomed waterfront trails that run through 22 parks and is the location for the Clarkson Go-Station. Rattray Marsh which boasts a beautiful boardwalk through the marsh and forested area, is one of the last wetland areas along Lake Ontario. It is accessed from Jack Darling Park, a favourite summer picnic spot!

The City Centre is a vibrant hub of condominiums and apartment buildings nestled among green parks and pedestrian walkways. Its skyline is visible as Toronto’s.

Celebration Square, located in the heart of the city centre boasts a water feature that is well used in the summer by children and in the winter as. A public skating rink. This Square is the venue for concerts and festivals throughout the year and is very popular as a free outdoor movie location on hot summer evenings.

Square One, is Ontario’s largest mall, offering the discerning shopper a multiplicity of high-end options and access to the finest retailers. It also boasts an entertainment centre, together with wonderful restaurants and movie theatres. The Mississauga Living Arts Centre is home to shows, exhibits and community art and drama classes. It is located near to City Hall and the Central Library. Sheridan College Mississauga Campus is in the city’s downtown core. Mississauga is also home to The University of Toronto Mississauga Campus, known as UTM.

Streetsville and Old Meadowvale Village are sought-after neighbourhoods that hold historic charm, while Churchill Meadows and Meadowvale are two of over 24 family- friendly suburbs with community centres, schools, splash pads, parks, bike paths, trails, and shopping centres. The suburb of Malton is home to Toronto Pearson Airport which is Canada’s busiest airport.

Mississauga Residents have access to 12 Community Centres, Libraries, and over 500 parks and trails including the tranquil Kariya park with its Japanese style gardens. Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens is known for its abundant, colourful flower displays. With 24 treed suburbs and expansive green space, sport facilities, tennis courts, rinks and baseball and soccer fields, Mississauga has something for everyone at every age.
